Facilities

Being part of the worldwide facilities team means delivering safe, secure, reliable, and cost-effective services and solutions to support TI’s operations and growth. Our teams oversee the designing, building and managing of numerous complex systems across TI, including ultrapure utility systems, large high-voltage distribution, and many more. We have an incredibly diverse organization, which enables us to do work that’s vital to both TI’s day-to-day and long-term success.

Announced in November 2021, the site has the potential for four fabs to meet demand over time. Construction is underway, and production from the first fab is expected in 2025.

Lehi, Utah
Lehi, Utah (LFAB)

LFAB1 was purchased in 2021 and began 300-mm wafer production in 2022. Announced in February 2023, a second 300-mm semiconductor wafer fab, LFAB2, will be built next to LFAB1.

RFAB1 opened in 2009 as the world’s first 300-mm analog wafer fab. RFAB2 is a 300-mm wafer fab connected to RFAB1 and started production in 2022.

Engineering roles

The equipment engineer is responsible for maintaining, enhancing and installing advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment in the fabrication facilities where TI’s world-changing technologies are created. In this role you will gain practical, hands-on experience solving equipment problems and implementing optimal solutions to support our 24/7/365 manufacturing operations.

The facilities engineer has ownership of a system or combination of systems supporting a semiconductor factory or design and sales locations. In this role you will need to evaluate and understand the unique operational and site conditions at a TI facility and have knowledge of the applicable regulations and industry standards.

If you enjoy driving process improvements, data analysis and gaining a deeper knowledge of a specific process, this might be the role for you.

The process engineer provides technical and sustained engineering support in a manufacturing area. They develop and implement process optimization to improve production efficiencies, process controls, manufacturing techniques, and production yields by utilizing Design of Experiments (DOE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC). They work with equipment engineers, product designers and developmental personnel to design and test new improved processes.

The product engineer is responsible for a specific product or group of products from development planning through production release and ensures the product is designed for manufacturability and reliability. They ensure that products shipped meet specification and quality goals and may also provide production sustaining support for these products post development release. They also serve as a central product resource for various internal customers such as design, process, manufacturing, test, quality, reliability and marketing.

The product test engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing cost-effective methods of testing and troubleshooting systems and equipment. They prepare test and diagnostic programs, design test fixtures and equipment and complete specifications and procedures for new products.

If you enjoy component/device development and continuous improvement of current manufacturing of advanced analog technologies, this role might be right for you.

As a process integration/development engineer you will have the opportunity to showcase technical expertise by driving process and device improvements through characterization, test, design of experiments, data analysis and simulation. Be a game changer in this role by communicating effectively across multiple teams to drive schedules and meet deadlines while leading technical discussions as a subject matter expert.

The industrial engineer is responsible for understanding the interdependencies between manufacturing process flows, people and equipment to predict and improve manufacturing capacity, cost and bottlenecks. They develop mathematical models to help predict and improve the factory’s overall cost, cycle time, and quality. Projects can include workflow analysis, utilization study, equipment layout and capacity modeling.

Technician & maintenance roles

If you enjoy hands-on mechanical and tool work, identifying improvements, equipment troubleshooting and applying innovative solutions, this role might be right for you.

The equipment technician is responsible for troubleshooting to determine problems in equipment used in the manufacturing process. They dismantle, adjust, repair and assemble equipment and use test and diagnostic equipment to perform checkouts. They also rebuild manufacturing equipment as required and may perform equipment modifications.

*Associate degree/equivalent military experience/relevant technician experience

As a facilities technician, you will perform technical tasks in support of engineering and maintenance activities involving the construction, design, specification, startup and operation of the facility’s mechanical, chemical and electrical systems or the installation of semiconductor manufacturing tools.

The process technician supports manufacturing process engineers to monitor and improve manufacturing processes. This role includes responsibilities such as monitoring statistical process control charts and helping identify yield problems or test new products.

If you enjoy data analysis, root cause and investigative work and identifying wafer signatures, this role might be for you.

The product test technician supports manufacturing product or production test engineers with technical support for products from product definition, planning, through production and release. Some responsibilities may include dispositioning lots, determining root cause of failures, running test equipment, analyzing wafer maps and/or performing lab measurements.

If you enjoy hands-on work with tools, working with a standardized set of instructions, and collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams, this role might be for you.

The manufacturing maintenance specialist role is primarily focused on performing planned preventive maintenance (PM) and basic corrective actions on equipment as scheduled. They are responsible for managing spare parts and consumables to support optimal PM scheduling that minimizes the impact on manufacturing. They also help identify and drive solutions to improve the quality and efficiency of PM’s.

Manufacturing roles

The manufacturing production specialist processes wafers of different technologies and supports the manufacturing operations at either a wafer fab or assembly test site. In wafer fabs they operate equipment to perform functions such as aligning, masking, etch and diffusion. In assembly test sites they perform semiconductor manufacturing functions in the production of semiconductor devices.

The manufacturing supervisor role is responsible for supervising the frontline employees inside a manufacturing environment. Responsibilities include developing and implementing activities to meet production goals, quality and cost objectives. They work to manage production schedules based on many dynamic factors such as available manpower, production bottlenecks, work-in-process (WIP) imbalance, new product introduction, equipment efficiency and materials supply. They also work on driving strategic improvement projects to improve team productivity and factory financial performance.
