Texas Instruments is looking for an energetic engineer with a passion for process development in epitaxial film growth. This position provides the opportunity to drive continual improvement at all levels. Our team is primarily focused on driving improved procedures and processes. We are searching for a self-directed, highly motivated engineer to join our team.

A Process Development Engineer in this role is responsible for the development, characterization and optimization of epitaxial silicon growth processes for the use in, but not limited to, Embedded Analog technologies to meet the requirements for volume production as part of the Advanced Technology Development team. The ideal candidate will be a technical leader in the area of Epi driving the characterization and optimization of the device and process to ensure robustness, reliability, and manufacturability meeting all electrical device performance targets.

 
The responsibilities of a Process Development Engineer in this role include:

  • Commitment to safety. You are expected to work safely and willing to coach and be coached
  • Development, characterization, and optimization of Epi processes to enable new product qualifications and new integration flow implementation.  Involvement may begin at any step, from paper studies to full-scale manufacturing
  • Compiles and evaluates test data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process or material specifications
  • Conceive and plan projects involving definition and selection of new concepts, equipment, automation technology, approaches in the processing or development of new or improved process
  • Creation of roadmaps to improve process capability, performance, variation, throughput, and cost
  • Publication and presentation of completed projects at internal company technical conferences
  • Disclosure of inventions for potential patent filing
  • Collaboration with equipment, high-volume manufacturing, integration, and quality engineers to achieve personal and shared goals
  • Recommends and implements equipment and process modifications to improve production efficiencies, manufacturing techniques, fundamental capabilities and production yields for existing products
  • Develops and conducts statistical analysis such as Design of Experiments (DOE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) targeting physical causes of failure for yield loss and improving quality
  • Partners with suppliers to define and execute on equipment and process development roadmaps
  • Support and leadership for model-based problem solving to address issues related to quality, yield and manufacturing defects
  • Training and mentoring of other engineers working on their career development

The person performing this role must be capable to plan effectively, drive schedules, meet critical deadlines on multiple tasks in parallel, lead technical discussions in their area of expertise, and work effectively across organizational boundaries. They must be able to clearly communicate project status and actions. Additionally, they must be able to interface with multiple organizations and work well on a diverse team to accomplish goals.

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field

  • 5 years of relevant work experience or academic research in advanced (<32nm) logic device technologies with an emphasis on epitaxial SiGe growth or various P/N-type epitaxial silicon growth applications

  • Working knowledge of selective epitaxial growth, wafer preparation techniques for epitaxial growth, and epi film characterization techniques

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, or a related field

  • 5 years of relevant work experience or academic research experience in Epi process development and integration

  • Working knowledge of advanced CMOS device physics and reliability mechanisms in advanced logic and CMOS technologies

  • Working knowledge of RP-EPI process and tool configurations

  • Strong materials background in Epi layer morphological and crystalline quality response mechanisms to varying process conditions

  • Experience in a variety of thin film deposition techniques, particularly RP-EPI, ALD, LP-ALD, PECVD, LPCVD

  • Experience in semiconductor process research and development

  • Experience working with semiconductor equipment manufacturing suppliers

  • Device physics training with understanding of materials and electrical test characterization

  • Strong foundation in statistical process control, Design of Experiments (DOE), engineering change control and process release strategies, & high-volume manufacturing (HVM)

  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions and locations

  • Strong time management skills that enable on-time project delivery

  • Working well in a team environment is imperative in this role

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong, influential relationships

  • Good listener and excellent verbal and written communication skills
