About the Job: 

We are looking for a highly motivated student to join our Quality Assurance team. Through investigating and analyzing defects and process control, you will ensure product reliability and help drive process improvements in our production in the wafer fab. You will learn methods and tools for physical failure analysis of semiconductor samples, about the processing of and components in semiconductor products of the newest technology and the operation of a wafer fab. Ideally you are available for an internship duration of at least 4 months starting around mid November 2024. Subsequent bachelor’s/master’s thesis is appreciated.


Responsibilities include: 

  • Team work with process lab engineers and technicians to determine possible root cause of failures in semiconductor samples, improve or develop new semiconductor processes and components.
  • Perform failure analysis on semiconductor samples with physical, electrical, mechanical or chemical methods, such as
    • SEM (scanning electron microscopy), AFM (atomic force microscopy), TEM (transmission electron microscopy), FIB (focused ion beam), chemical etching, hotspot analysis.
  • Work with outside international laboratories for failure analysis on semiconductor samples, such as
    • SIMS (secondary electron mass spectroscopy), AES (Auger electron spectroscopy), XPS (X-ray Photon Spectroscopy), SRP (spreading resistance profiling).

Your Profile:

  • Technical course of studies in Physics,  Electrotechnics, Chemistry or Mechatronic
  • Basic knowledge in semiconductor
  • Willingness to work in a laboratory environment
  • Helpful is some practical experience in semiconductor failure analysis.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Troubleshooting skills on electrical and mechanical systems are beneficial
